Udderly brilliant
I have to come up with a costume idea for an office bowling party on Friday. Given my newly aquired life role (which is much better than my money making job), I was thinking a cow would be appropriate.

First, a technical note… if you see a blank blog here and then see it come up hours later, it isn’t Chattablogs fault. It is ours for sticking with dial up. With dial up we can’t rebuild the site and so what happens is I publish the entry and then I email someone with fast access to log into the blog and do a rebuild. Not the most efficient way to manage our family blog, but that is how it works at our house.
Tomorrow Fuller is 3 weeks old. And this weekend he decided to enter the terrible 3 weeks old phase.
What? There isn’t a terrible 3 weeks old phase? Well, the first Buckminster Fuller was an inovative man and I guess Fuller is taking after him and inventing his own ways to deal with life.
Saturday was ok. Saturday night, not so much. I don’t know what changed but now my son is eating every 2 hours and sleeping less in between. Once his belly is full he is an angel to gaze upon and look into his big blue eyes. But once you try to put him down (in his swing, his rocker chair, or his bassinette) his angelic face turns into a very fussy one. His entire face turns into one big frown, his chin quivers, and suddenly his grunts of frustration turn into a big time scream fest.
This lasted from Saturday night to about an hour ago. Then, when I was feeding him I looked around his room for something different.. and my eyes fell on an item hanging in his closet. No, not the Auburn Tiger costume that we put on the dog for big games. My eyes showed me the Baby Bjorn that my SIL graciously handed down to our family. Now my son is sleeping in his Baby Bjorn and I have free hands to eat (with my head turned to the side so I don’t get crumbs on his red hair) and to type this entry.
You would think that since he has fallen asleep that I could put him down in his bassinette, but you would be wrong. Once I put him down he wakes up and will cry until we pick him up again. We have put a timer to it and he has gone for 30 minutes until we cave. I mean, until I cave.
Let’s see how long this Baby Bjorn solution will last.
BUT! I have to point out that until Saturday night things had been very idyllic. Yes, I am still exhausted from less sleep, but overall it has been fun to have a baby in the house.
Fuller has had a host of firsts in his first three weeks of life. First there was the doctor. He had an excellent visit and his parents were very happy to hear that he is very healthy.
And the following Monday he got his first perscription filled when he was showing signs of a eye infection (very common for newborns).
Then, on October 17th he was baptized. (A first and should be an only occurance in his life.) Fuller is the first of the 10th generation on my side to be part of the covenant family. Also, he was the first baby baptized during the 8 am service at our church.
He had his first outing to a restaurant after he was baptized. Grandma Great hosted a very nice brunch at the Chattanooga Choo Choo for all the realtives that came in to town to see him be baptized as a covenant child. He slept through the brunch which was par for the course at the time.
His first shopping trip was this Friday when I took him to Babies R Us and KMart to pick up a few needed items.
So, as the weeks fly by, we have been delighting in Fuller and trying to learn how to be responsible parents. Even though things took a turn down the not so great this weekend, I still think this is the best thing that has happened to me so far in life.
He is a great addition to our family.

Fuller has been home for one week now. He is still alive and hasn’t been dropped on his head. As the new parents, we are sufficiently sleep deprived. Yesterday I was so tired I was actually slurring my speech. Maybe that all means we are doing this right?
God has blessed me with great parents, tirelessly working to make sure we have food on the table and that I didn’t have to lift a finger to get it there. Daddy has been working on our jungle of a yard and now it looks more like a yard.
Tomorrow the family arrives for the baptism of Mr. Buckminster. I have already warned one sister that there could be time share problems with the other Grandma arriving in the afternoon and the expectation that the Auburn vs. Arkansas game be watched. Yet I think that no major problems will arise.
Right now Fuller is asleep in his little swing, content with a full belly. I should go back to sleep too. It is the whole “sleep when the baby sleeps” concept.
Yesterday was Daddy’s birthday. We will officially celebrate on Saturday when he is surrounded by his girls and his mother. But I was told that Fuller is the best present he could have gotten.
Happy Birthday Grandpa Fred!

A week ago tonight, D and I were at Parkridge East Hospital wondering how much longer until we had a baby in our arms. We wondered if the Future President Crumley was a boy or a girl. I wondered if he or she would have any hair and if so, would it be red or blonde?
The answers to those questions came at 3:34 pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2004. Our baby is a boy.
Our son has lots of red hair.

Our son. Those words make me cry sometimes. Maybe it is the “baby blues” or maybe it is the relief that the 2 year, 9 month journey to add a little one to our family is over, but yes, I cry sometimes when I think that I have a son.

Greetings from EastRidge Hospital! Iam sitting in my bed, using the free webtv internet, waiting for my breakfast to arrive. I am sore and extremely tired, but I have to stay awake while certain medical personel keep coming & going.
But that isn’t what you care about, is it?
Baby Boy Crumley arrived yesterday at 3:34 pm. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 7 oz. He is 20 3/4 inches long. AND he had red hair! His father named him after watching the cuddle care nurse do whatever they do in the first hours of birth. He decided that our first son shall be named Buckminster Fuller Crumley. Webtv is really difficult so I won’t be adding a link right now to who the first Buckminster Fuller is. Just know that if you know D, the name fits his first son. That is all for now, my breakfast better get here soon. Tales from the hospital will continue later.
We will be leaving the hospital tomorrow afternoon.

Did you know that all this week is Customer Service Week? If you have to call or speak to anyone this week who is giving you Customer Service, make sure to thank them for the job you do. Or at least don’t spit in their face when they act like they don’t care for about your problem.
And no, you don’t have to thank the telephone prompts that lead you around in endless circles. The only people you have to thank are the ones with real, live, beating hearts and voices.
