Weekend Warriors
I left the house today at 10 and Austina left right after me. Now all that is left of our long weekend are remnants of the Easter ham and the paint we put on the dining room walls. (There?s also some chocolate from our communal Easter basket. Mmmmmm? chocolate.)
When she left, I told her to ?Dravel carefully.? It is a new word from the words drive and travel. Start using it.
Even though it was only three days, it feels like I have been gone from work for a week. Not because I have so much to do at the office, but because we got so much done at the house. Having Austina around to visit and help out allowed me some free hands to actually fold laundry AND put it away. While she fed Fuller his lunch (mmmmmm?. apples) I was able to empty the dishwasher? wait, she did that. Well, while she was keeping Fuller happy, I was able to clean the kitchen, including the stovetop. No, wait. She did that too. Well, I did get the laundry done.
Friday, D went to the office to finish some project. While he did that, we went shopping. We checked out the clothes at Goody?s and got our Easter meal fixin?s at Wal-Mart. That seemed like it took forever, but it was a lot of fun. Also, it did not rain, making the sunshine a wonderful treat for my day off.
On Saturday, we combined our muscles and painted the dining room the rich colors of Surrey Beige and Retro Green. A couple of weekends ago, D installed the new ceiling panels and light fixture. Then Saturday we primed (er? Austina did that too) and then D and I snapped a chalk line around the room to block off the boundries of the colors. We were able to accomplish two coats and the room is beginning to take on some elegance.
Saturday night D and I went to dinner and a movie, while Austina took care of the littlest Crumley. We saw Robots, which wasn?t too bad. But when we came home, my mother-guilt took over because Fuller wasn?t such a happy boy while we were gone. Austina did a great job and took it in stride, happily handing him over to his Momma when we walked in the door at 11:45.
Our Saturday evening turned into a very rough night, as Fuller was incredibly fussy for a reason that wasn?t apparent to us until we picked him up from the nursery after church on Sunday morning- Fuller had a cold. Or a sinus infection. Well, a lot of congestion that was suddenly escaping from his nose. Within an hour, my son became a snot nosed kid! We treated him with saline, a dose of Tylenol, love, cuddling, and two long naps. The result- his Sunday night was the exact opposite of Saturday night. They were like night and day, except they were both night, so the analogy is a little off, but you know what I mean, right?
So, here it is Monday and I don?t have that feeling of ?Where did the weekend go?? because we are the weekend warriors. We get things done.
(And Austina brought her Settler?s game. We never played it. Bummer.)
