Vacation wrap-up, or events that did not involve gymnastics
When we left the last entry, I said it should be a fun day.
I was right!
My Uncle had invited us to his house on Lake Martin. To be clear, my in-laws have a house also on Lake Martin, but it is on the other side. If Lake Martin was the United States, my uncle?s house would be in the New York and my in-laws house would be in San Francisco.
Anyway? invitation to Lake Martin at my Uncle?s lake house.
Getting there from Auburn is actually pretty simple. I won?t give you directions because I am sure my uncle would prefer if random strangers didn?t just show up at the house, but trust me it is pretty simple. That being said, I have gotten lost getting there and driving back a couple of times. So, in this trip, I rode with Leah and we tried very carefully to pay attention to landmarks and signs to make it to my uncle?s house because we knew that when we returned to Auburn that evening we would not be following my father and grandmother (who did know the way and has probably never gotten lost getting there).
Once we arrived at the house we unloaded Fuller and the many items required to take one baby to the lake for an afternoon- diaper bag (stuffed with diapers, wipes, change of clothes, extra bib, and food and formula for his hunger pains) and toys. We hung out at the house, ate some lunch, and watched Fuller master his sitting up ability. The day was chilly so we didn?t spend a lot of time outside. Fuller played with my cousins, Emily & Sam, sitting up for a whole hour while being attended to by various adults and children.
Around 4, Leah & I took off for Auburn (with some written directions in hand as well as our memories) and amazingly we did not get lost getting back to College Street. We took a quick trip to Tiger Rags where I purchased Fuller his very own Auburn sippee cup and Auburn pacifier. Oh, and I got Damon a nice shirt too.
Then we walked around the campus taking pictures of various buildings and chatting about life and whatnot. Part of the whatnot included where to eat for dinner. We settled on Moe?s Southwest Grill. It was good.
Leah and I then hoofed it from Toomer?s corner back to the Coliseum where we watched the event finals.
Sunday was a nice day, but considerably cooler. Leah left to go home and the rest of my family went to church with Grandma. While at church, Fuller spent the time in the infants? nursery. When I picked him up after the service, there were two little girls in there. The fun fact is that both those little girls were red heads!
After the service we were invited to lunch with Grandma?s fellowship group. Fuller fell asleep on my lap, so people brought me food and drink while I held him. When he woke up we put him in a highchair, stuffed his fresh feeder full of cornbread and watched him make a serious mess.
That pretty much sums up the non-gymnastics part of the trip. Daddy got to spend time with his mother, his grandson, and me before heading overseas. Grandma was a wonderful host, and it was nice seeing family again. My other uncle, Tom, and his wife, Sharon, also came to visit with my dad on Saturday and Sunday, so seeing them was a treat too.
And now, back to regular life. Being away for 4 days makes it hard to get back into the swing of things.
