Vacation wrap-up, or events that did not involve gymnastics

Published by under a day in the life

When we left the last entry, I said it should be a fun day.

I was right!

My Uncle had invited us to his house on Lake Martin. To be clear, my in-laws have a house also on Lake Martin, but it is on the other side. If Lake Martin was the United States, my uncle?s house would be in the New York and my in-laws house would be in San Francisco.

Anyway? invitation to Lake Martin at my Uncle?s lake house.

Vacation catch up

Published by under a day in the life

Ok, my grandmother’s PC has been “fixed” so i can now blog faster here. I have been using my Treo 650 at the gymnastics finals to update, but I started to get a headache looking at the screen for too long.

The vacation part of this trip to Auburn has been lots of fun and relaxing. When we (Daddy, Fuller, & myself) got here Thursday we unloaded and I immediately left for session one. My grandmother is thrilled to have us visiting.

Live blogging is hard

Published by under war eagle anyway

Well, I’m a little late to tonight’s session. We are in the 3rd round and tonight Leah is my guide.

Leah is watching Bama b/c her favorite gymnast goes there – Terin Humphrey. I don’t hqve high hopes for Bama. They keep wobbling. BUTthey brought their band tonight. Bama is the only team with musical support.

If you haven’t noticed, I’m not reporting scores. That’s because this is all very difficult to follow and blog about at the same time. Plus, it doesn’t mean alot to me. The most gymnastics experience I have is the one season I took beginning tumbling.

Oh, big news. Courtney Kupets is sitting 2 rows ahead of me. The little girls in front of me are about to pee their pants. She appears to be cheering for the GymDawgs. (Yes, that’s what they are called.) GA is currently on vault. For those of you following along, we are in the 4th round.

Live blogging is hard. So, I plan on getting back to watching. More later.

Second Session

Published by under war eagle anyway

Welcome back sportsfans!
The second session of the Nationals is currently in the 3 minute 30 second warm up.
Since it is the second session there are lots more people here. My seats have me sitting next to the BYU fans.
Now that things are starting, things are loud. GA fans and Bama fans dominate the crowd. FL fans are next to BYU, and they appear to be mixd in with UCLA fans.
But the cutest fans are the ones in front of me. I think they are all part of a local gymnastics class. I would guess they are 6th grade and lower.
My seats are lower, section 13, row 3, seat 1. I’m right in front of the vault.
Courtney Puckett just finished her uneven bar routine and she pretty much nailed it.
The second round is going to start now. As the teams march to their little corrals (really, they have to be corraled in little picket fenced in areas while the events are proceeding) the crowd is getting louder. And bigger. At the earlier session this afternoon, the crowd wasn’t much. Lots of Utes (Utah) in pink shirts.
One of the questions I am going to ask Leah is what’s up with all the different mats? As the teams warm up they keep moving these mats that they don’t get to use during the actual contest. Why?
Bama fans are to this competition what Kentucky fans are to Basketball. Loud and all over the place. I’m just now realizing this because they weren’t in the first round. Their girls jus sat quietly in their corral. Oh dear, one of the Bama girls is doing her floor exercize to “Sweet Home Alabama.” Bama fans are going nuts.
Courtney Puckett just wobbled on the beam. And we move on to the third round…

Judges, Take Control Of Your Event

Published by under war eagle anyway

Greetings from Auburn, AL! (Insert WarEagle and Woo-hoo! here.) I’m here for the NCAA women’s Gymnastics tourney. The tickets were a Christmas gift from D.

Obviously a gymnastics meet is going to be different than a basketball tourney (which is what I normally attend), but this is kind of cool. Almost like an ADD dream. Don’t like the beam? Then watch the parallel bars. The girl on the vault ugly? Then check out the looker with the legs doing her floor exercize.

Right now, Utah appears to be leading. LSU is in second and since they are Second, west, then I am trying to be for those Tigers. Currently they are working the beam.

My friend Leah couldn’t make it to this day’s events. She will get here tomorrow and then she can explain some things to me. If she can’t then maybe I shouldn’t call her “my friend, the gymnastics teacher.”

D’oh! Someone just biffed on the bars!

I need to pay attention. I don’t have ADD.
