The best laid plans…

Published by mrscrumley at 1:42 pm under a day in the life

In my mind, a three-day weekend usually means one of two things. Option one is three days to do absolutely nothing except feed myself, care for my son, and lounge about in a manner befitting a sloth. Option two is to plan out a project of some sort to either start, get a lot of headway on, or finally finish.

This past three-day weekend, we were opting for option two. (Last Memorial Day weekend we started the nursery room project.)

The dining room project has dragged on long enough, but between working for actual paychecks, making sure our son is properly cared for and entertained, and the stuff of life, we have not been able to make that final push to get the built-in shelving done. We figured we should forgo visiting the in-laws at The Lake (the sloth-like option) and use the three days to assemble wood that will some day house our many books that are currently suffering silently in the attic.

Unfortunately, as the saying goes, the best laid plans? well, I don?t know the rest of the saying, but the end of the saying is something about the plans going down the crapper. Which ours did.

Saturday we spent time assisting our church youth group with their yard/ plant sale. We manned the plant sale portion of the fundraiser. But, we ended up staying too long, and the day finished without us touching the stained wood in our dining room.

The next day, Sunday, we were greeted with a rather stressful phone call at 8 am. I won?t go into details except that the phone call pretty much ruined our Sunday. We had first wrap our minds around what the real issues were and then run around trying to meet with people and asking them to make decisions that we thought we had made two weeks ago. The stress from that issue really deflated us and made us realize the weekend was pretty much a wash. And then D had to make something electrical for the evening service, which diverted his attention again from the wood in our dining room.

Monday, we did get something accomplished, but in no way have we come that much closer to having an almost finished dining room. We waxed and polished the wood, and in the process discovered that my skin is very sensitive to the finishing paste. (It burned, itched, and swelled.) Then the rain started and D had to pack it in and head to the office to pull a late night.

I am glad this weekend is behind us and we can just focus on what is ahead. Return to our routine and waiting for the next weekend to come.
