Diaper Duty
This morning Fuller woke at 5 am, with an urgent need for a bottle and then an even more urgent need for a diaper change. This simple diaper change, however, turned into a change of clothes for both Fuller and me. That is how nasty it was, leaking everywhere, even onto the rug that he had been playing on earlier.
As I realized the seriousness of the simple diaper change, I hastily moved to get it off of him and me, putting him in a clean diaper (Huggies, size 4) and asked Austina to redress him so I could clean myself. I yanked the changing pad cover off the changing table, grabbed his soiled clothes, the lap pad, my shirt, and bundled it all up to throw in the washer.
Later that morning, Austina took the load out out of the washer to place it in the dryer. She pulled out the changing pad cover, my shirt, and then pulled out this white thing and held it up, asking why I washed the diaper.
They may be disposable, but they hold up well in the wash too. Don?t worry, I didn?t try to reuse it.

Rock Stars have kidnapped my son!
Cool Aunt Stina is visiting this week. She needed a break from the heat up north, so she came down south for the heat AND humidity.
We haven?t been doing too much since D and I still have to keep up our day jobs, but Austina has been enjoying quality time with her favorite nephew. On Tuesday she whisked him away for a full day on Lookout Mountain, visiting friends.
The children played with Fuller, making him laugh and feel like he was on top of the world. They swam (one of Fuller?s favorite summer time activities) and generally had lots of fun until Fuller fell asleep, exhausted by the pressure of being the awesome kid that he is. After he finished napping they came home. He was gone all day and it was great to see him when he came home. I really missed him!
We do plan on exploiting Austina?s kindness by going to a movie Friday while she keeps the kid. But, in all fairness, she and I are going to a movie tonight, just us gals.
Last night she and I hung out at McKay?s. We were trying to find the Anne Lamott book, Operating Instructions. I didn?t find it, but I found her book Blue Shoe, so that will tide me over until Operating Instructions turns up.
And today, Aunt Stina will keep up her coolness factor by braving the Tennessee Aquarium with Fuller at her side. Or in front of her, if he is in a stroller. I think we have a guest blogger entry in the works. We shall see.

Sirens in St. Elmo
This morning I heard sirens from the distance and coming to a stop somewhere near by. I don’t know what the rukus was, but it made me think about the neighborhood that I live in and about how many people think this is a dangerous place to be.
I don’t find it dangerous at all, but I know that if it hadn’t been for my husband, it wouldn’t have been my first choice.
Now that I have lived here for almost 7 years, I am comfortable and love to tell people that St. Elmo is where it is at. I enjoy my neighbors and many of our friends live in this neighborhood. Taking walks always shows me something new and exciting happening here.
But sometimes, there are days….

Homeschooling ? Damon?s Point of View
Yesterday, Alli blogged about the homeschooling fair we went to this past weekend. So, I?d like to throw out my opinions.

The Homeschool Scene- an option, not the solution
Saturday we went to the CSTHEA Curriculum Fair to check out what?s what on the homeschool scene. We really want to homeschool our kids for at least their early years and we thought it would be interesting to go to the fair and see what is offered in the PreK range and what kind of organizations are available in this area. We spent some time in the Bright Beginnings (*?) booth because they indicated on their signage that they had PreK materials (most booths indicated that they start at Kindergarten level).
Now, I know that the perception about homeschooling is that it is mainly something that Christian families participate in and since we are a Christian family, this doesn?t really bother me. But, I think I went into the fair thinking that it would be a mix of Christian and? what?s the word? Mainstream? Secular? I don?t know. I just got the feeling that if you weren?t Christian but wanted to look at homeschooling, that you might be turned off. **
And then there was the workshop we went to named ?Homeschooling Foundations.? I don?t know exactly what we thought it might be, maybe something about getting started on how to homeschool, but the message I went away with was, ?God makes all children unique and putting your children in school (any school- public or private) would not meet the needs of your unique child and in fact, the concept of school is unnatural, founded by men who wanted to create a workforce and not build up the unique characteristics of our children.?
This left a bad taste in my mouth and hard spot on my heart.

Daily Fuller Fix 7/24/2005 - 7/30/2005
Jul 22 2005
Disclaimer
I am not responsible for anything that I do today.
Until I get a nap.
Fuller woke up at 4:45 am. This is not typical. Until yesterday, Fuller was sleeping until 6:30 every morning. Yesterday he woke up at 5:30. Today 4:45 am.
I rocked him, sang to him, and even though he was calm, he did not want to go back to sleep. So he had a bottle, pooped his pants, I changed him, and now, at 6:01, he has gone back to sleep.
Now, please excuse me while I go get ready for the day that I do not take responsibility for.

Good vs. Cheap Palindromes
Alli just posted regarding this reference to a “famous palindrome” that may or may not have been created or at least posted by the Aaron Belz many of us know from Covenant College.
I hope the Aaron we know wasn’t the author of that palindrome because I think the author kinda took the easy way out. He basically just made that girl’s last name a combination of all the letters he couldn’t stick somewhere else - very amateurish and indicative of 95% of English palindromes. (In essence, a computer could produce a hundred other similar ones)
