Darling Darla

Published by mrscrumley under a day in the life

Darla.jpg Meet Darla. She is my new friend!

I got her through the free iPod shuffle offer on audible.com. If you are someone who likes audio books, especially for long car trips and such, and you are hankering to become your own pod person, this is a great little deal (if you have joined audible in the past and want to rejoin, you have to use a different credit card than previously). Word of advice though- don’t try burning the audiobook to a CD-RW and try to listen to it in your car. It probably won’t work. A CD-R will, but not a CD-RW.

Now Darla is showing me how old my music collection is and how I need to request gift certificates for music for my birthday. My 29th birthday should be all about the music. At least, that is what Darla is telling me. And I listen to Darla a lot.

hee. That was a little pun. And I think it is time for the coffee.

If Sydney Bristow can do it, then so can I

Published by mrscrumley under momma monologues

Yesterday was one of those days where I just felt stretched, pulled, twisted, and left hanging. It was one of those days where I wonder, ?How the heck am I pulling this off?? And I think, ?This is just not working.?

The whole ?working mom? hat that I wear most days, it is looking grubby and tired (along with my house) and I just wanted to throw it away in frustration because I thought I just can?t go on any more. I wanted to scream, ?Somebody help me!?

And then, a thought hit me.

If Sydney Bristow can do it, then so can I.

Sydney has to go all over the world, saving us all from Evil and Doom. Tonight we will learn that she will have keep Evil at bay while pregnant. I can?t wait to see what kind of kick-ass shoes her swollen feet get shoved into.

And if the show continues with the current premise, she will have to save us all from Evil and Doom while stopping every two to three hours to breastfeed. Can you imagine Sydney with a baby in a Baby Bjorn, hot pink wig (for her and the baby), and swinging from a rooftop on a zip line with 5 seconds to spare before the bomb goes off? That is of course, if she plans to breastfeed, and that?s a decision for each family to make for themselves.

For me, yesterday was a rough day. I didn’t have to save the world from Evil, but I did have to save someone when they deleted a file and keep my son out of the dog food at the same time. The stretching, pulling, and twisting finally ended when I quit trying to focus on so many things and just took Fuller outside and let him swing in his little swing that Damon hung from the tree.

I just hope Sydney gets the same chance.

Yoohoo… Will Somebody Please Help Me?

Published by dword under conversations & observations

A friend (Jonathan) of mine from college would often go over to one of his professor’s (Bob) home to do his laundry. He told me this story of what happened there one afternoon, and I’m now going to share it with you. (It helps the story to know that Bob’s wife’s name is Pat.)

Shh…. the babies are sleeping

Published by mrscrumley under a day in the life

I came home from work around noon. Fuller was still napping and Damon was also resting his eyes, so I sat down at the computer with a mind to start my at-home office hours.

And then I heard a very weak, “Alli?”

Damon is sick. He has a fever of 100.5, his joints are achy, he is alternating between the chills and being hot, and his skin hurts. He slept most of the afternoon with a few breaks to ask me for a cold washcloth, a bowl of ice (to place the washcloth in and make it colder), some water, some Gatorade, and a popsicle. He also likes it when I rub his eye sockets and his back.

I blame it on the fact that when we took Fuller to the pediatrician yesterday, we had to wait in the sick area. Damon probably picked it up there.

Ok, it’s a stretch, but one I choose to believe.

Fuller is still doing really well. His rash is pretty much gone, though there is still some swollen welts on his back and legs. He isn’t fussy except when there are normal times to be fussy- time to eat and time to sleep.

And right now, they are both asleep. Damon had the extra assistance of the Nyquil and Fuller was just exhausted from the business of playing so well. And now, I can finally get some work done.

recipes to share

Damon is the type of person who is visual. When you go out to eat, usually he will choose the item from the menu that has a picture next to it. When he looks at a cookbook, hunting for a new recipe to try, he likes the cookbooks with pictures that show him what the end result should look like. In Damon’s mind what looks good probably will taste good.

So, that is why I am now bookmarking Recipes to Share. Maybe you will too!

Urticaria

Published by mrscrumley under blogging 'bout the boy

Go ahead and google it.

It is a fancy word for hives.

This is what we learned at Dr. M’s office:

It is not chicken pox.

It is not contagious.

It is not hand, foot, & mouth disease.

It is not chicken pox.

It is not contagious.

It is viral.

It won Fuller the worst rash of the day award.

It is not chicken pox.

It is not contagious.

And I still won’t be able to take him to the Sports Barn nursery.

Move over Dr. Spock…

Published by mrscrumley under momma monologues

Fuller has a mysterious rash with bumps all over his body that has his parents befuddled.

This was our conversation earlier:

Damon: It looks like an allergic reaction.

Me: Or it could be chicken pox.

Damon: I guess.

Me: He hasn’t had the chicken pox vaccination yet, he doesn’t get that until his next checkup.

Damon: But we want him to get the chicken pox…

Me: But there is a vaccination now…

Damon: But I saw on The Simpsons (referencing the Pox Party episode)…

Me: (chuckling) I know, I saw that too, but…

Damon: I get all my medical information from the Simpsons.

Fuller will be going to the doctor later today.

Our circle is complete

I am finally sitting on my couch, baby in his own bed, and dogs lounging at my feet. There really is no place like home.

Saturday, after the game, D and I left our parking space and were quickly informed by a kind Auburn fan that we had a flat tire on the rear passenger side. We were able to drive 50 feet to a parking lot and change to the spare tire. Since Damon is always prepared, we had an air compressor in the trunk that we used to inflate the tire while we drove. At the Lake Martin Mini Mall (somewhere on Podunk County Road, AL) we switched back to the regular tire.

Since it is a slow leak we just made sure it had enough air and stopped a few times to check it on the way home.

Also, Damon was determined to go another route from Auburn to Lake Martin that did not involve 280. We did find it via little county roads with numbers like 82, 72, 50 and one jaunt that was Girls Ranch Road. It was quicker than the construction lanes of 280 and a tad prettier as well. Just don’t ask me my right from my left. That’s all I have to say about that.

We are home, that’s what matters. And that we are home in time to watch the premier of Desperate Housewives is really important.

L to the U to the K to the E!

Published by mrscrumley under i love st. elmo!

We are on the road, heading north (with the rain), back to Chattanooga.

When I turned my Treo back on in B’ham I was greeted with a voicemail from my dear friend, Esther that there is a new Wilhelm in town- Luke Gregory.

I spoke with the happy daddy and even though Luke arrived a little less than a month early, he is healthy and happy. 4 lbs, 15 oz.

I can’t wait to meet him!
