2005 Thanksgiving- Day 3- Sorry the camping ground is full
Thanksgiving morning the camp ground found that the alarm clock had been set at 5 am. As in, Fuller woke up at 5 am, disoriented and maybe a little cold. So, crying out, he woke us all up.
We were able to get Fuller a snack and calmed down, back to sleep until the sun came up. Once up, the rotation of food began. Breakfast burritos, coffee, and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins (warmed by the fire) filled our tummies.
But, I kept thinking about the stuff we couldn?t find the night before. We determined that even in daylight, it could not be found. This was disappointing, because the baby backpack was what we were counting on to carry Fuller around while hiking and exploring. He is a heavy kid and even though he is walking up a storm, I didn?t think he could hike Mt. Everest, let alone toddle along the sugar sand hiking paths in the park.
So, I took matters into my hands, borrowed S-G?s car and drove an hour to Mt. Dora where I found Wal-Mart open and ready for my business. I got a $20 stroller and headed back to camp. Thanksgiving indeed.
Our Thanksgiving meal was a delightfully moist brine turkey that my parents cooked on the grill. If anyone out there thinks that a turkey has to be roasted in an oven or fried in 5 gallons of peanut oil, well those people should consider grilling the turkey. It was so yummy and I am just sad that I can?t go to my fridge right now and have some more.
Instead of sleeping off the effects of the turkey Damon, Fuller & I took a walk to see the spring that the state park was named after. I have to admit that my image of Florida was a tad Miami Vice? neon, palm trees, and guys with t-shirts under their blazers. Our walk was along a sugar sand path (not too stroller friendly, but we survived) lined with different varieties of palm trees (tall ones, short ones, and some in between), pine trees, cactus, and lush greenery that made it a pleasure to walk along.
The Wekiwa Spring is surrounded by live oaks, covered in moss. The scene is truly picturesque and reminded me of what God has given us? a beautiful world to live in; a family who I love with all my heart, and all my basic needs met in some way or another.
Thanksgiving I offer, thanks be to God.
