2005 Thanksgiving- Day 5- God made dirt, it don?t hurt
Fuller is enjoying using his legs to make his way around the campsites. But every time he stumbles his little hands go down, and Florida dirt clings to him. His backside catches the black soot every time he lands butt down. His knees have dirt stuck in the crevices of his skin. And when we sat him down in his booster seat to eat, his hand went straight to the dirt and into his mouth.
Today seems to be the dirtiest he has been this entire trip. I?m not sure why. Yesterday Damon gave Fuller a shower and this afternoon Fuller got a full body rinse to clean him up after a very exciting session of playing in the gray water.
There also seems to be a lot of sand in everything. Even though we take our shoes off there is quite a bit of sand in our tent, even in our sleeping bags. I take a shower but I still have soot in my toenails. (Too much information? Oh well.) That first bath when we get home will be great.
It has been fun camping with my family and having Fuller around. I know that originally I wasn?t keen on the idea, but the planning for the trip was mainly on the shoulders of my little sister and her in-laws, since they have done this many past Thanksgivings. Barbara, my sister?s mother-in-law, has certain things, like cooking and cleaning, down to a science. And their family is pretty laid back, so we aren?t pressured into any set agenda of activities. Which is great because with Fuller, he doesn?t do agendas that well.
A few nights ago Austina, Bo, Damon, & Nat spent a few hours playing Settlers of Cattan. Last night we just sat around the campfire and chatted. This has been an awesome Thanksgiving trip.
Tonight we will celebrate my little sister?s 24th birthday, complete with New York Style Cheesecake. Tomorrow we break camp, to head different directions. I don?t know if we will camp again over Thanksgiving, but I do know that Damon, Fuller, & I will definitely camp again.
Now, on to find some marshmallows.
