Well, Damon is my hero. He took the laptop to the Geek Squad, they gave him some advice and he took it home and got it all working again, inlcuding making sure the Christmas pictures are here. I have been setting things up again and it looks like we are in business.
Not quite the dramatic story you were hoping for? Sorry. It is still a happy ending.

Recently we watched Over the Hedge, a movie given to Fuller for Christmas. It was a very funny movie and I don’t think I have seen Damon laugh that hard in a long time. What impressed me was the star studded cast (Steve Correll, William Shatner, Wanda Skyes, Eugene Levy, Allison Janey, and Bruce Willis). There was even some pretty decent animation, but the writing was really awesome. Overall, I give it an A plus.

In a little while I plan on visiting my friend Esther in hospital. She didn’t get to go home on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but it turns out this is for the best. She will be in the hospital until Baby Benjamin is born.
I am sure that this is a very scary time for Esther and her family. She is sad that Luke is going with his grandparents and a tad bored with the whole bed rest thing, but every time I talk to her she seems in good spirits and says all is well with her and Benjamin. (I really want to call him Benji but Esther says no.)

This is one of my favorite pictures from this weekend. I wish I had used the flash to make it a bit sharper, but oh well. Click the picture to read the description.
We also got her a “Welcome to Chattavegas” shirt from the Canvas Canoe, but this CD really made her night.

I’m trying to not be upset, but the rush of Christmas adrenaline has worn off, I’m a tad hormonal, and irked that I have to go to work… so this news really has me down: My laptop crashed.
My new, primarily for me, something I would be working very hard to pay off, laptop crashed.
Yesterday morning it just would not boot up. Not even in safe mode.
After fiddling with it 30 minutes or so, I put it aside, we packed, and got on the road. We were home for 30 minutes and then I sat down and got a bit chatty with the online tech support. (I wasn’t going to spend long distance dollars on tech support.)
Apparently something in the operating system corrupted and from what I read online, this isn’t new. The issue for me now is that I need a system recovery disk and apparently my laptop set up did not come with one. Gtwy is sending me one, but it won’t arrive before we leave on Friday morning.
All of our Christmas photos are on that laptop. The decent ones are on Flickr, so at least we have those, but still.
We are within our 14 day return deadline, but I really hope I don’t have to take it that far. Damon is going to take it to the Geek Squad to see if they have a disk.
I’m a tad upset. This is not a great way to end 2006.
I’ll let you know how this saga plays out.

Christmas is over and I didn’t have a white Christmas. Of course, this year I get a second chance because we are having a second Christmas in Ohio on Friday. It sure seems cold enough here in Chattanooga, I wonder if it is cold enough to bring us snow in Ohio? Then I could have a white Christmas.
(The last time we were in Ohio for the holidays we were snowed in during a blizzard. It was so much fun!)
I’m a bit funny about the winter. I don’t mind it at first, I think it is appropriate for Christmas, since there is that chance of a white Christmas. (Hey, it snowed in Las Vegas, can’t it snow in Southern Alabama?)
I think winter is ok, but as soon as the holidays are over, I’m ready for spring. I want to ditch the sweaters and turtlenecks, hide the heavy socks, and find my twin sets and sandals.
Spring brings the SEC basketball tournament, the flowers on the phlox, and more opportunities to be outside.
