Finger spell

Published by mrscrumley at 4:25 pm under blogging 'bout the boy

In case you haven’t noticed, recently we have had several pictures of Fuller doing something with his fingers. I’m not exactly sure what this is all about, but he is a tad obsessed with looking at his fingers, pointing, bending, and whatever else there is to do with them.

We have made progress on learning numbers. He can count to 10 (in a round about way), and he has started to use his fingers a little bit for that purpose, triumphantly showing me all ten of his fingers when he gets to ten.

ABCD_ASL.jpgI keep trying to show him the ASL alphabet, since he is doing really well with his letters, but he just keeps showing me his baby gang sign. It’s not like I am trying to get him to spell Phentermine or something, I just want him to know that manipulating his fingers has the ability to be more.

HEH I teach my son some sign language. I have been since he was at least 6 months old. He wanted to speak so badly that I had to teach him some way to express himself effectively!

All 3 of mine have been taught sign language since they were babies. My oldest uses it alot, but he’s also taking sign language classes (it’s considered a foreign language for home schooling) and the baby signs all the time telling us what she wants. It’s so much nicer than the “uh, uh” and whining that they want something, but can’t tell you what it is they want. If you really want him to learn sign language, persistence is the key. One day it will just click with him!
