Self Portrait Sunday: Family time

Happy Easter!
Damon told me earlier, “Good job on the Easter clothes. Not too gay and I didn’t have to go get them.” The gay comment refers to the outfit Fuller was going to wear, but since Damon doesn’t have a similarly smocked outfit (with fire trucks), I opted for these semi-matching brown shirts. I am the accent color, with the blues and greens. And of course, I am wearing my rocking blue shoes.
Our day has been kind of long. We were in the nursery during the 8:30 service, then we had Sunday School, and then we went to half of the second church service. We didn’t stay for the whole thing because Fuller was just a bit over zealous from all the stimulation. He sang gleefully during the service (he really got into the alleluias), but chattered loudly throughout the non-singing parts.
When we got up to leave, it was right after a baptism. Did I mention that we were sitting on the front row, on the side? I was gathering our belongings and Fuller marched up to Cal (the pastor) and said, “Bye!” several times. And as we marched down the aisle to door, Fuller hollered “Bye” to the rest of our church family. It was simultaneously embarrassing and hilarious. So much for sneaking out of church early.
I worked with Fuller all week to say “Happy Easter!” and “He is risen!” He doesn’t really get it, but just like other things I try to teach him, I know repetition helps. And the great thing is that the more I tell Fuller about God, Jesus, and the miracle of the resurrection, the more I am reminded about the great gift I was given to be a child of God.
Our favorite family Easter song is “Morning Sun” by James Ward. I pray next year we sing it and Fuller’s voice joins in with gusto and understanding.

That’s one of my favorites too.
Beautiful picture, and beautiful post to go with it. Beautiful family, too.
sweet picture. Great job
Great picture!! And I love the story… nothing like kids to make your graceful exit as ungraceful as possible
Ya’ll look GREAT!!!!
What a gorgeous family!
Sounds like you had a busy, full, and happy day!
What a well-coordinated family! You all look great.
By the way, the James Ward song is my favorite Easter song too. Every Easter I think of John Boles singing it at Faith. If I could ever get someone at our church in Mandeville to sing it, I would probably have goose-bumps and tears in my eyes.
Oh, what a mervelous Easter day you’ve had. and you all look so wonderful. Can’t believe that Fuller looks so grown-up with the short hair and big-boy shirt, lol!
You all look great
Nice family picture!
