Breaking the fever

Published by under a day in the life

Since cold weather turns us into homebodies and being a one car family makes Fuller and I essentially housebound (though we did walk to Mom’s group yesterday), it was inevitable that cabin fever would strike sooner or later. As much as I love playing cars, helicopter, letters, and watching Diego, I can’t look at our walls much longer.

Which is why I am thrilled we have a membership to the local kid’s museum and aquarium. If I need a changed of scenery, or Fuller needs to spend some energy on something other than running circles around the coffee table, we just head on downtown. Which is where we are headed now.

I’m looking forward to spring. I need to let Fuller run circles around the house.

Are you game?

Published by under blogging 'bout the boy

Fuller has become very interested in playing games. And as his parents, we have decided to exploit this interest to our own advantage.

“Fuller wanna play a game?”

“Yeah!”

“OK, let’s see who how many cars you can hold in your hand!”

“OK!”

(Fuller picks up cars.)

“Now let’s see if you can put them in your room!”

“OK!”

(Fuller runs to his room with the cars and dumps them on the floor.)

“Yeah! Fuller wins!”

Last night we had a hybrid game of Red Light/ Green Light and Simon Says. Fuller had a lot of energy built up, so I let him run circles in the living room. I would make him stop by telling him “Red light- stop!” and then go with a hearty “Green light- go!” I would interject other commands like “Green light- go backwards!” or “Green light- pick up the car!” He was way into it. And we were able to pick up the living room with out tears.

Our game dissolved into giggles when I tried to get him to do a crab walk. The giggles came from me when I had to demonstrate what a crab walk actually was. I guess seeing Mommy huff and puff through a crab walk was a tad silly. Giggles turned into full blown laughter when Fuller was able to get into position but just ended up dragging his butt along the ground.

Tonight we might try a round of hide and seek, except I hide his blocks and he has to find them and put them back. Oh wait, he already hid them under my feet. Ouch!

Redefining

Published by under blogging 'bout the boy

Yesterday Damon and Fuller were playing football in the living room. When Damon told Fuller they needed a time out, Fuller started crying, not knowing what he did wrong. As Damon realized Fuller misunderstood the meaning of “time out” in a sport sense, a quick parenting pow wow was held to redefine our son’s glossary.

Henceforth, all time outs are in reference to sports. Quiet time is for nap time, and misbehaving gets Fuller the naughty chair for 3 minutes.

We like to parent by the seat of our pants here. Maybe it will do more good than harm.

House Warming

Well, here we are. In our new blog home.

This weekend Courtney and I spent some special skype time devoted to moving all entries and comments from the old blog to this one. Chattablogs was a good starter home, with great neighbors and support, but we had to move on. Needed more space and the ability to be in more control.

We still have to pretty the place up, switch out old permalinks, and other technical mumbo jumbo, but we are open to visitors. The Daily Fuller Fix will remain in place for now, but eventually it will have a new home as well.

Welcome, we hope you come back soon!

Dangerous Father-Son time

Published by under a day in the life

Dangerous Book and Hanging Gardens

Damon and Fuller received The Dangerous Book for Boys as a Christmas gift from my parents. Damon has been slowly going through it with Fuller, taking the time to read to him and demonstrate some things. One evening I was out and they made paper airplanes.

Currently they are on the chapter about the Seven Wonders of the World. After reading about a wonder, together they build a Lego replica. This afternoon, while waiting for football to start, they built a pyramid. And tonight they built the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (which they have to recreate tomorrow so I can take a picture).

It looks like it was a good father/son gift. I just wonder when they will get to the “dangerous” part.

Snowday

Published by under a day in the life

Since I am doing the SAHM thing and Fuller isn’t in school, I didn’t really pay attention to school and business closings due to the wintery mix last night. I was going about my day like normal when Esther called saying she didn’t have to go to work today, could we party?

Our party turned into fun at the aquarium and lunch at our house. It was a good day. I took a few pictures, but they are still on the camera.

Unfortunately the day has turned sour… since it seems all of the members in our family have developed a cold. I’m glad we got out of the house today since we might be a few days before we feel up for it again.
