non-Birthday wishes

It’s Damon’s birthday today, but really, it’s a non-event. Damon is nothing like me when it comes to birthdays. He doesn’t want to be spoiled, indulged, or even celebrated. He doesn’t expect to be the center of attention from sun up to sun down. In fact, if it weren’t for me reminding him, he probably wouldn’t have even remembered today was the day his mom gave birth to him.

Since Damon has altered his food intake to resemble something like a diet (he’ll have to explain it to you, I don’t get it), we aren’t going out for a special dinner. And much to Fuller’s disappointment, there is no cake. Oh, and mine.

But we can celebrate in other ways. We I sing the song, we give hugs, I gave one back rub, and we leave Daddy alone to do his thing (whatever it might be). In a few years I might have to demand Damon let me give him a party (40 years is something to celebrate), but right now, I’m happy to cuddle by his side and just tell him “Happy Birthday.”

Maybe he doesn’t like to think of all the bad things that have happened on his birthday.

I’m much like your husband – except for the cake part – in that I am not good at celebrations. Birthdays and holidays were not made a big deal of when I was a kid, so I just don’t have any feeling for it.

One more trip around the sun. A late Happy Non-Birthday!
