Flat Stanley
I finally finished something that has been hanging over my head for the last few weeks- a Flat Stanley project.
I can’t remember when I first heard about Flat Stanley, but I always thought the concept was great. It stems from a book about a “flat” kid who goes on a trip. The idea is for kids to send their own “flat” kid to friends and relatives to have Stanley (or what ever name they give him) pictured in various settings of different cities. The pictures would be mailed back to the kids and they could learn something about where Stanley had been.
Back in March I received Flat Stanley from my niece, Vivian. I took some pictures of Flat Stanley visiting with us in Atlanta and in Chattanooga. A while ago I received another “flat” kid named Jeremy. I took him around Chattanooga and he was invited to visit Dayton when Fuller and I traveled there to see my mom.
I was able to compile the pictures into a mini scrapbook for each student. Jeremy’s book tells about visiting Dayton and Chattanooga. While in Chattanooga, he meets another flat kid named Stanley and Stanley tells about visiting Atlanta. In Vivian’s book, we learn about visiting Atlanta and Chattanooga. While in Chattanooga, Stanley meets another kid named Jeremy who tells Stan about visiting Dayton.
Each kid got three cities in their adventures!
I didn’t get a due date on Vivian’s, but I hope it would be soon since school should be over in a few weeks. And Jeremy lives in Canada and the letter with his asked for them to be mailed back on May 15th (today)! So I worked late into the night last night and then this morning to get them into the mail. I hope they like them. (For the record, I wasn’t asked to do a scrapbook, I just decided to make it that way.)
The idea of Flat Stanley is a really neat way to teach kids so many lessons- letter writing, travel, history, geography, and even some art.
Flat Stanley is pretty famous. He even starred in his own movie!

We got our Stanley booklet in the mail Saturday and Vivian is taking it to school today. You worked so hard on it! It looks great!
I’m so glad you got it!
