Bakers Fun

Published by mrscrumley at 10:27 pm under Uncategorized

I kind of got bit by a baking bug last week. Since we had to give away the cookies we made, I thought it would be fun to make some more cookies just to have here in the house. Fuller is usually up for helping, since it usually means he gets to dump the ingredients and lick the beater.

Playdough CookiesPlay Dough Cookies are not made of play dough, they just look like it. I saw them on someone else’s blog and thought they looked like something Fuller would really get making.

We made the dough last night and let it chill over night. This evening we “played” with the dough, making it into small balls, putting it into green, red, and yellow patterns. Then we rolled them into long “worms” and wound them into pinwheels.

As the second tray of cookies was in the oven, I told Fuller it was time to get ready for bed. And then Damon spoke up asking if we had any unsweetened cocoa. We did, so Damon asked if Fuller could stay up a little longer.

What Damon was aiming for was trying his (and Fuller’s) hand at making 5-minute chocolate cake. Basically you put the ingredients into a coffee mug, mix well, and then cook it in the microwave.

As it “bakes” it will rise and rise and rise, going over the top of the mug. Just when you think it is going to spill, it will then fall back into the mug, which is the indication it is finished.

The cake popped right out of the coffee mug and we split it, enjoying it. A lot.

I’m not sure what Fuller liked best- making cookies that took two days or baking a chocolate cake (he even sang himself Happy Birthday) in five minutes. All in all, it was some good (tasty!) family fun.
