Reading List: Special edition

Published by at 2:52 pm under Family education

Last week there was no reading list and today there isn’t the typical reading list because we still have our books checked out from two weeks ago. This is mainly my fault because I started slacking off on reading to Fuller. Specifically I slacked off on making sure we got through his library books. And I realized a little while ago that this will cost me because one of the books in our bag is actually a 7 day book, meaning it is now a week overdue. Oops! Sometimes being a slacker will cost you money.

But just because we haven’t been reading library books doesn’t mean we aren’t reading. Fuller has some bookshelf favorites, and when I asked him to get me a book a few nights ago, he brought me five.

One of the new books in our permanent collection (thanks to Fuller’s birthday) is The Other Dog, written by Madeleine L’Engle.

The Other Dog was written in 2001 and tells the story of Madeleine’s dog, Touche and Touche’s experience with adjusting to life with a baby in the house.

My mom had seen my recent library picks for helping Fuller adjust to the idea of a new baby and knowing what a baby will be like. When she found this delightful book she picked one up for Fuller and one for Genevieve, who will become a big sister in January.

It is a delightful story, told from the viewpoint of the dog, who is wondering what the inferior dog is doing in the house. And at the end of the tale, Touche proclaims every house should have two dogs.

Fuller likes the book, proclaiming how ridiculous it is for a baby to be a dog. Of course Fuller still thinks our dogs like him, but I would trust his judgment on this book. It is good and excellent addition to his bookshelf.

I LOVE “The Other Dog”! Chris gave it to me for Christmas last year when I was overdue with our own baby. We have two dogs, which made the book extra funny/appropriate. ME is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, authors.
