Give thanks

This month, I’ve been inspired by Tulip Girl‘s log of daily thanks. Today in church, our small 8:30 service was brimming with thanks during the offering. One of the people who stood up reminded us of the Corrie ten Boom story and how Corrie and her sister Betsie had such thankful hearts, that while they were in their prison camp, they gave thanks to the Lord for fleas. The fleas that swarmed them and the other prisoners kept the guards from bothering them, allowing the women to lead Bible studies without fear.

As Thanksgiving approaches, we have been talking to Fuller about what it means to give thanks. And in that spirit, I too want to share some of the things I am thankful for:

~a creative husband who enjoys being creative and encouraging my own creativity
~Fuller’s excitement for a new baby
~baking as a mother/ son activity
~a working humidifier
~the excitement of anticipated travel to see lots and lots of family

Bundle of joy

Because people need to know

Welcome, Baby Cheapskate readers! And if you are a regular Crumley Family Blog reader, head over to Baby Cheapskate to find out about great deals and steals to keep your family within budget.

When I told Damon I did a guest blog post about Skype, he said, “People still don’t know about Skype?” My reply was simply, “Well, people are still discovering cloth diapers, so I guess there is room to tell people about Skype.”

Enjoy!

Writing practice

Fuller and I spent time last evening working on thank you notes for Fuller’s birthday presents. Since Fuller has started working on his handwriting skills, I thought I would give him more experience than writing his own name.

On each note, Fuller was in charge of writing the name(s) of the recipient. I would draw the letter on a chalk board as an example and then Fuller would write it on the stationary. My letters have had about 28-29 years of experience, so I know how to keep my lines neat and level. Fuller, he’s only been “writing” for about a month. His letters have no consistent height or space. And he has no idea what the conventional rules for writing are. If he runs out of room on his “line” of text, he just goes below the previous letters to write the next one.

I kind of can’t wait to hand out these thank you notes because just to see Fuller’s first attempts at writing is almost like a present in itself.

Doorbuster

Today I officially stepped into the holiday season by making my first Christmas present purchase. I was so giddy from the excitement of hitting the “confirm purchase” button I started listening to Christmas music.

While I enjoy doing a bulk of my Christmas shopping online, there is still something to be said for stepping into a brick and mortar store and finding good deals. And since Christmas comes earlier and earlier every year (this year I think the economy is helping it make an earlier appearance to help stores out), getting started on your shopping is probably creeping toward the top of your “to do” list.

If you want to get started or maybe finish up your Christmas list, consider spending some of this Saturday at the Sears Super Saturday Sale. From 7 a.m. until noon, Sears will be bustling with doorbuster deals in all departments.

I usually think of Sears for appliances and tools, and on Saturday (while supplies last) they have a Craftsman 3 piece combo tool kit on sale for $89.99, which will save $50. Considering that’s three tools, it seems like a deal to me.

Sears is more than tools, but they have jewelry and clothes as well (I love that they carry Land’s End clothes). If you are looking for fine jewelry, you can find it for 40%-70% off regular prices. But this Saturday, during the morning sale, Sears will be taking an extra 15% off fine jewelry.

Remember, the sale is only this Saturday, November 22nd from 7 a.m. to noon. And the prices are only good while quantities last, so get there early if you have something specific in mind.

Coming up

Since I got the ok from the doctor to travel again, we finally told Fuller he would be traveling again to see Grandpa Albert and Grandma Linda. Fuller’s response was, “Mommy, I’m going to miss you when I go to Grandpa Albert’s house again.”

Seeing as how the last two trips he took were without me, I guess you can see his reasoning to think I wouldn’t be going with him.

I immediately explained, “Fuller, this trip I get to go with you and Daddy. We all get to go to The Lake.”

“You DO? Oh, Mommy! THANK YOU! I just want to hug you!”

Man, with a response like that, how could I ever want to spend a weekend by myself again?
