Media attention

Published by mrscrumley under blogging 'bout the boy

We have been enjoying our time with our new family member, even if he does keep screaming when he doesn’t get exactly what he wants. Fuller has used the word “cute” to describe Tebow and I think it fits.

Today our local paper ran a column that featured Tebow and gave more information on why we named him Tebow. You should read it, I think it was an excellent column.

And earlier this week, Damon answered some questions for The Arena Blog. It too gives more insight into Damon’s choice of name for our second son.

Sorry if things are quiet around this blog. Things are starting to level out and we will probably have a sort of routine down within the next few days. And then we go to Florida, tossing out all routine while we enjoy the SEC Tournament.

I’m still really beat, so I’m hoping to head to bed for a few hours before Tebow needs his next meal.

Swaddle, silly

Published by mrscrumley under blogging 'bout the boy

Tebow One Week

When Fuller was a tiny newborn, Damon and I had problems with the act of swaddling. We just didn’t do it well and Fuller was constantly escaping from the blanket. We stopped swaddling pretty early on, probably to our detriment since Fuller stopped sleeping on his own, but preferring to sleep in our arms or on our chest.

A few weeks before Tebow was born, I purchased a swaddling for dummies blanket. You slip the baby in a pocket and wrap the wings around the sides. Velcro helps keep the blanket in the burrito position. We started using it in the hospital and several people positively commented on it. We only have one, but wish we had more.

We have been swaddling Tebow when he sleeps, and he stays pretty content. Yesterday I didn’t swaddle Tebow and he was the fussiest he has been since we brought him home from the hospital. At the end of the day, I wrapped him up and he immediately calmed down. A lightbulb went off and I realized his fussiness was probably my fault.

Today has been a better day, with Tebow sleeping for long stretches and eating mostly well. I hope this is a continuing trend. Tebow is a week old today, and I expect things are only going to get better.

Blogging Tappas: Tebow edition

Tebow Baptism photo shoot

~Tebow was baptized at church yesterday. Since my parents were in town and my dad would do the honors, we did it quickly. Tebow wore the same baptism clothes Fuller wore when he was baptized (Fuller was 3 weeks old when he was baptized) and looked kind of cute. My dad has baptized all four of his grandchildren and he said Tebow gets the gold medal for being the quietest. Tebow slept through the whole thing. In fact, he slept all the way through church!

~Tebow is a screamer. When he gets mad, he gets really, really mad. It takes a while for him to calm down and focus on the task at hand (usually eating).

~My dad and I took Tebow to the doctor today for his “meet the doctor” visit. The pediatrician didn’t say it, but I know he was thinking, “This kid is awesome.” We don’t have to go back for a whole month.

~Tebow is a great eater. He started nursing immediately after being born. Unfortunately I made a rookie mistake and ate some food that has not agreed with Tebow. This caused some uncomfortable nights, but Tebow seems to have evened out and is eating every two to three hours and then going back to sleep. Gas drops are our friends.

Naming your baby “Tebow” will draw the attention of the Internet.

Published by dword under Uncategorized

With college football out-of-season, I guess fans needed something to keep themselves interested. The internet’s response to our son’s name has been… polarized. Here’s what folks are saying about his name (paraphrased for sake of civility).

Tebow Name Responses

I personally find it funny how, in a year where thousands of babies are going to be named “Barack”, naming a baby “Tebow” is considered shocking. So much so, that it warrants some extremely less-than-charitable comments from folks. And yet, the amount of bile directed at Tebow’s name is probably just a fraction of what his namesake endures. I certainly have a greater appreciation for how Tim Tebow conducts himself, and am even prouder to have a son named after him.

Fuller Photo Friday

Fuller’s little brother is finally here and when he came to meet Tebow in the hospital, he brought his camera. We added the pictures to his February Flickr set, but here is my favorite picture:

Meet Tebow Sanford Crumley

Published by dword under blogging 'bout the boy

Tebow

So, our 2nd son was born today, and in accordance with the agreement made early in our marriage, I’m responsible for naming our boys and Alli gets to name the girls. In an earlier post, I relayed how I’d entertained the name Kermit Roosevelt. I’d also been considering Lamont Cranston but decided “Lamont” immediately conjures images of Sanford and Son (although, that would give me license to constantly say, “Lamont, you big dummy” and “Elizabeth, I’m coming to join you Honey!”).

Like our first son, I wanted a name that communicated the quality of person I hope he grows up to be. To this end, I decided to name Son #2 after one of the finest role models of our age – Tim Tebow. If you don’t know who Tim Tebow is, don’t admit this fact to anyone. Just smile, nod your head, and pretend you’re in awe of both his athleticism and his stellar humanitarian reputation (trust me, you’ll seem smarter).

Now, I did use a family name for his middle name. Sanford, is Alli’s Dad’s middle name and makes a nice balance to his somewhat “out-there” first name. And, compared to “Buckminster Fuller”, a lot of names seem “normal”.

So, our hope for Tebow Sanford Crumley is that he lives an honorable life, following in the footsteps of the two men he’s named after; ultimately becoming a role model to others, himself.

UPDATE: A growing number of folks have pointed out that Tim Tebow plays for Florida, not Auburn. To us, Tim Tebow’s greatness transcends Gator-nation. Even if he’d never played a down of football, he’d still be a heck of a guy. His stellar on-field accomplishments are really the icing on the cake. Also, Tim Tebow lost both times he played Auburn. And, assuming Auburn and Florida don’t meet in the SEC Championship game this year (a near-certainty, given Auburn’s current competitiveness), Auburn will be THE ONLY SEC team Tim Tebow never beat. So that makes it all OK.
