Swaddle, silly

Published by mrscrumley at 10:52 pm under blogging 'bout the boy

Tebow One Week

When Fuller was a tiny newborn, Damon and I had problems with the act of swaddling. We just didn’t do it well and Fuller was constantly escaping from the blanket. We stopped swaddling pretty early on, probably to our detriment since Fuller stopped sleeping on his own, but preferring to sleep in our arms or on our chest.

A few weeks before Tebow was born, I purchased a swaddling for dummies blanket. You slip the baby in a pocket and wrap the wings around the sides. Velcro helps keep the blanket in the burrito position. We started using it in the hospital and several people positively commented on it. We only have one, but wish we had more.

We have been swaddling Tebow when he sleeps, and he stays pretty content. Yesterday I didn’t swaddle Tebow and he was the fussiest he has been since we brought him home from the hospital. At the end of the day, I wrapped him up and he immediately calmed down. A lightbulb went off and I realized his fussiness was probably my fault.

Today has been a better day, with Tebow sleeping for long stretches and eating mostly well. I hope this is a continuing trend. Tebow is a week old today, and I expect things are only going to get better.

Swaddling is great! We swaddled our daughter until she was really old (by swaddling standards). Maybe 5 months? She slept SOOO much better and we got very good at swaddling. I found that a small, lightweight fleece blanket worked better than flannel because the little bit of stretch allowed us to get her really snug.

We use the Kiddopotamus swaddlers (with Genevieve and now with Seth). They are the same concept, you can get them at Babies R Us and they are great. Once we swaddled G she started sleeping for longer stretches. I think because Seth is swaddled is why he is such a good sleeper.

yeah our girls love(d) the “baby burrito”. if Selah manages to wiggle out at night she’ll fuss until I go re-wrap her.

Awwww, such a cutie! Taylor loved being swaddled for about 3 weeks, then she would have none of it, now she sleeps like her daddy, arms and legs spread eagle!

Hope he continues to be relaxed for you!

My boys loved being swaddled and we loved the velcro blankets…a life saver. But the third baby, our little girl, has never liked being swaddled. She was fussy in the hospital when she was first born, I think because the nurses would wrap her up so tight. Then when we got home I just laid her on our bed to sleep for a nap one day (without swaddling) and she just slept there with her arms stretched out without making a peep. That’s when the swaddling stopped. Funny how every baby is so different.

Bob was always the swaddling king, I’ve never been able to get it right. He’d wrap the kids up so tight they went right to sleep and rarely wiggled out, well except for Nick but that’s mainly because he was too big for the blankets….LOL. With Olivia we discovered the velcro ones and they work great, even I can do it!

I used to stay in the nursery at church and if the babes were a little older, I would hold them really close and tight to me and they seemed to gather comfort from that. Just a feeling of security, I guess.

Anyway, the real comment is your baby is beautiful. I know boys and men are handsome. Your son is beautiful, in a few months or a couple of years, he will be handsome, just as Fuller is now.
