Almost Baby Number Two’s Name

Published by under blogging 'bout the boy

not ready yet

As of this post, the baby’s not here yet. So, I thought I’d write about a name that had serious consideration for Son #2 – Kermit Roosevelt Crumley.

Kermit Roosevelt was the 2nd son of President Teddy Roosevelt. Kermit displayed many of his dad’s traits, namely a keen intellect and a love of exploring the outdoors.

Sadly, the name Kermit will be forever synonymous with that damnable green frog, and therefore passes from consideration. It’s probably just as well considering Kermit Roosevelt battled chronic depression and alcoholism most of his life, until finally committing suicide while stationed in a far-off Alaskan base during WW2.

Another incidental strike against the name – Kermit Roosevelt Jr. was the CIA mastermind behind the overthrow of Iran’s government and installation of the Shah of Iran. As such, the name is vilified throughout the Muslim world and would surely limit my boy’s options in the international intelligence community.

So now, we bid adieu to thoughts of what might have been. Farewell, Kermit Roosevelt Crumley. We never knew you.

Looking forward (tomorrow’s the day!)

Wheeeeee!

Now that we know for sure when Baby Two will be here, I’ve been a bit sentimental today. Tomorrow it all changes and we go from a family of three to a family of four. And Fuller no longer gets the undivided attention of two parents. He will no longer be an only child, he will be a big brother.

We are all very excited about tomorrow, it will be here before we know it. And it will be here very early! When Fuller wakes up tomorrow, I will probably be sitting up in a hospital bed hooked up to a couple of monitors and trying not to scratch my IV.

Updates will be found at my twitter account. Are you as excited as we are?

What we DO have

Published by under Uncategorized

Not quite model material

We are soaking up as much Fuller time and energy (lots and lots of energy) as we can before the baby arrives. This morning he went on a “God made EVERYTHING” monologue that started off with the trees, grass, and clouds and ended up with the Wii and every Wii game we have in our possession.

When he asked what we were going to do today, I explained that Daddy and I had to go to the doctor to check how the baby is. His response was, “To see if it is ready to come out?” I replied he was correct and his enthusiastic response (“Yeaaaaaah! Woo-hoo!”) made me so excited for him and all the big brother stuff he is going to get to do.

Non-flowery update

There is no new baby in this house yet. Just thought you should know. We are currently getting ready for church (some of us faster than others) and planning a “normal” Sunday.

Oh yeah, today is the “official” due date. But we all know how babies feel about those things. This little girl is the only kid I know to actually arrive on her due date. If you know of any more, please feel free to leave a comment and tell me about him/ her. It might make me feel better. Or worse, in case we don’t have a baby today.

I almost forgot to put this up! Fuller’s current flickr set is updated.

This is my favorite non-flag picture:

I am looking forward to this next week when there better be a new baby in the family. Fuller is looking forward to taking pictures of his new baby brother.

Take Fuller to work day

Damon gave me a very nice gift today- he took Fuller to work with him. All day.

While they were together, Damon took the opportunity to help Fuller with his orienteering skills.

Taken by Fuller :: Flag Hunt They started with a map of downtown and headed toward Subway (their lunch destination), keeping their eyes open for American flags. The goal was to find twenty flags and mark where they were found on the map. And Fuller took pictures of them as the hunted them down.

Fuller is a rather observant child, often shocking us by recalling events and details from days, weeks, or months past. But when it comes to looking for specific things (like his shoes or Optimus Prime’s axe) he tends to just glance around and declare them lost or beg for my help. And while I love that he knows my super power is finding things, I want him to develop the skill on his own.

So, I appreciate this activity Damon cooked up for him. Fuller learned to look up and down, near and far to find his object d’jour. And plotting their finds on the map just helped reinforce Fuller’s concept of maps and direction.
