When it’s not raining…

2009 Fire Pit Season

This past Sunday we officially opened our fire pit for the fall season. It was such a boon for us because it wasn’t raining. We managed to all be outside, enjoying the fire and roasting marshmallows for a few hours. It’s a fun annual tradition, giving us family time with lessons on roasting the perfect marshmallow and how to keep from falling in the fire. Tebow was very excited to be there, strapped into his feeding chair and staring wide eyed at the fire.

And then it rained. And rained. Tuesday was mostly dry, so we were able to do it again, this time making dinner over the fire and bring out the TV/ laptop combo to watch Lost in Space (we are working our way through the series, Fuller is a big fan). Within an hour of taking everything back inside it started raining again. I think the rain stopped sometime for about five minutes or something… but really, is it ever going to stop?

We have had two field trips canceled due to rain in the last two months. Add to it the bummer of not being able to make the make-up trips and then not being able to get out of the house… well, fire is very exciting right now.

Tomorrow we flee south to Auburn (again!) for a very packed weekend of raptor watching, tailgating, and hopefully no rain. And when we get back, the fire and Fall sun will hopefully be waiting for us.

  1. And no crazy, drunk, drugged-out strangers….. woo hoo!

  2. Of the billion reasons that I love fall, bonfires are in the top three….I crave that smokey smell! And smores…. :)

  3. Hi Clare! In order to live a healthier lifestyle we have stopped making smores ar the house. We only roast marshmallows now. Because those are definitely healthier! ;-)
