Using TV to solve our parenting problems

Published by mrscrumley at 11:12 am under Family education, blogging 'bout the boy

At the beginning of the month, Fuller reorganized his magnets on the magnetic calendar to represent the month of November. Afterwards we added special magnets for trips, holidays, and doctor appointments.

One of the magnets is for “haircut” and I use this as a tool to help Fuller accept the fact that he must get his hair cut. I allow him to pick a date (I gave him three options) to put the haircut magnet on the calendar. He picked today.

Even with the ownership and knowing it’s coming, we still have a hard time getting Fuller to submit to the inevitable. He is going to get a haircut.

This morning, Damon remembered his childhood Sesame Street favorite had a segment dealing specifically with haircuts. So, we pulled up youtube and found it:

Fuller immediately saw the correlation between the redheaded muppet and himself. Now when I pull out the clippers, I just have to remind Fuller that running through doors hurts, hair cuts do not.

This was Damon’s favorite? Must have been from the show’s first season!
