Change in weather, change in needs

Published by under Uncategorized

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carmex®. All opinions are 100% mine.

It happens every fall. The leaves dry up and fall off. The cooler temps force us to turn on the heat, and suddenly like, the leaves, our skin dries up. The leaves changing colors and falling off the trees are pretty… the dry skin, not so much.

In our family, this means stocking up on lotions and remembering to apply it after baths and showers. If I forget, I find myself scratching my skin raw. The other day Fuller and I were walking back from a friend’s house and he stopped every five steps to scratch his leg. My poor kiddo suffers from the dry skin too.

Which leads me to why this post is sponsored by Carmex. I was sent samples of the new line of Carmex® Healing Lotion and Carmex® Healing Cream.  As someone who suffers from the dry skin torture that comes along with the changing season, I was happy to open the package and try it out.

First, I will let you know my usual go-to lotion is Gold Bond or the generic equivalent. I love how that stuff relieves what ails me, but it has a serious drawback in that it leaves me cold (I assume from the medication in the lotion) and it kind of stinks. Not something you really want in the winter. Also, I never put it on Fuller because of the cold feeling it left.

Here is the skinny: After trying the provided samples, I’m willing to replace my Gold Bond (or generic equivalent) with Carmex Healing Lotion. It definitely relieves the itchiness, it feels good (no cold feeling!), it doesn’t smell medicine-y (my spell check doesn’t think that is a word, but it totally is), and I don’t feel like my skin is dry again hours later. Also, I think it will be a good way to help Fuller’s skin too. (Fuller hasn’t tried it yet because I kept it to myself. I guess now I have to share.)

The Carmex Healing cream was used on my driest, roughest skin (as the packaging suggest)- my feet. And I have to say I was happy with the results. My feet still need attention via pedicure (just because I love them so much), but I am sure with regular use of the healing cream, my feet won’t be cracked and um, gross. I haven’t used the cream long enough to verify that statement, but I have high hopes.

If you want to try out the Carmex® Healing Lotion and Carmex® Healing Cream line, then you can find it at Walgreens or drugstore.com for $5.99 each. The packaging has the signature red and white Carmex logo (BTW I love their lip blams) and flip top lids for easy squeezing (much better than a pump, in my opinion).

Catch-up (part 3) – The Jerseys

Published by under blogging 'bout the boy

Even though I upload pictures to flickr, I rarely go back and update descriptions and titles. I guess I figure that’s what the blog should be for?

6th Birthday Party

This picture is floating in the photostream, and I thought I would explain that one of these jerseys was Fuller’s birthday present. Damon read an article on Sports Illustrated (or ESPN or some sports site) about the shortage of Tebow jerseys for the Broncos. They kept selling out faster than they could be kept on shelves. Well, it so happens that a player who left the Broncos before Tebow was drafted also had the number 15. And apparently that guy was kind of a jerk. So, there were plenty of his jerseys on the shelves.

A company in Colorado was accepting the jerk guy’s jerseys and recycling them by sewing Tebow’s name on the back. Those jerseys were cheaper too. So, Damon went ahead and purchased a jersey of the other player, sent it to the company, and got Fuller a recycled jersey. And he LOVES it.

And now to explain why there is a smaller jersey with Fuller’s name on the back.

One of Damon’s coworker’s thought it would be a good idea to see if there was an NFL player with the last name Fuller and then we would purchase Tebow his own jersey, with Fuller’s name on the back. Damon found one player- Vincent Fuller- who plays for the Tennessee Titans. This is cool because we are close to Tennessee.

And this is where the story gets better.

The Sunday before Fuller’s birthday the Broncos and the Titans played each other. So throwing together a tailgate theme party was immediately decided and fun was had by all.

Catch up (part 2)- Football continues

Published by under a day in the life

Continuing with the catch up theme, I need to briefly mention Fuller and football.

Picture day

Fuller’s football career continues. A few weeks ago I was writing a “wrap-up the season” post in my head, only to find out that after the last game is play offs (with double elemination!). So, the season is still going on. (There is a lesson in honoring commitments, disappointment, and having a good attitude in here somewhere. I’m still learning it.)

Except for the one loss during regular season play, the team keeps winning. If they win this Saturday they go to the Super Bowl next Saturday. If they lose, then they play Sunday. If they win that game they go to the Super Bowl. If they lose, then we get medals and can reclaim three nights a week.

Overall the season has been a good one, with good practices and bad practices all providing learning experiences and bonding between father and son. Fuller has had two high points. One game was played at Finley Stadium (a big deal in itself) and Fuller had the honor of earning the game ball after the win.

Later that week, he earned an excellent compliment from the coach that spoke not just to Fuller’s football ability but to the kind of kid he is. (It was a chest swelling, tear welling moment.) Fuller will probably remember the game ball more than the compliment, but over all, both are pretty high on my list of awesome things that happened this season.

Catch-up (part 1)- Halloween 2010

Published by under a day in the life

I’ve been organizing photos. A lot of photos. Not just the ones on our flickr photostream, but the ones tucked away in folders across the five computers we have in the house. It makes me realize how much hasn’t been blogged here but at least we have some sort of reminder to jog our memories in ten years and we wonder what happened in 2010.

I’m not going to go back and chronologically update things but first I’ll post the picture so many people who don’t check out photostream are waiting for:
