Happy Easter!

Easter 2011

We had a good day, starting with the church breakfast, worship, and moving on to an egg hunt at home. Hope your Easter was a good one. The pictures prove it!

This is how much fun we had

We got back from our annual trip to the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament yesterday and this year we came away from Atlanta feeling happy and well… not actually hating Atlanta.

This year we changed up our vacation strategy by staying in a Bed and Breakfast which proved to save money and take away a ton of stress I didn’t recognize we had until it was missing.

The tournament was fun, even though Auburn lost their first game. The kids loved riding the MARTA, we found restaurants that weren’t crowded and had good food, and Tebow found fans in the stands while he enjoyed the games. And if he looks like this, why wouldn’t he have fans?

Happy Thanksgiving

So, this is another catch up post. And really, Thanksgiving was that long ago, but I was too tired after all the work for the feast that I just watched Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving with the kids and tried not to fall asleep on the couch.

After the holidays last year we decided that we had to create a rotation of holiday travel that kept things somewhat fair to both sides of the family and also to include time for our family to create holiday traditions in our own home.

This year our Thanksgiving was designated the year we stayed home.

2010 Thanksgiving Helpers!

While I think of Thanksgiving as a holiday that is meant to be shared to gobs of people (who you hopefully know), we opted to stick to just the four of us for our first Thanksgiving in the new house.

Since we were home, Damon did the traditional frying of the turkey. (A bit of trivia: I have never roasted a turkey. I have cooked one on a rotisserie, but never in the oven.) I did most of the other dishes- corn pudding, mashed potatoes, dressing, deviled eggs, peas, Sister Schubert’s yeast rolls, and an apple pie trifle.

2010 Thanksgiving Totally yummy.

Tebow actually slept through the meal, so our conversation was focused on reminding Fuller what the holiday was, what it meant, and why we were eating what we were eating.

We had a lot to be thankful for, starting with our new house and all the blessings we have already harvested from living here.

Hope your family had a Happy Thanksgiving as well. I’m thankful you have stuck around to visit this blog and read what we have to say.

The deal (or the bribe explained)

This summer we continued in the family tradition of visiting Lake Martin in July. It involves time with grandparents (Damon’s parents), cousins, boat rides, dinner at Kowliga, and lots of swimming in the lake.

Lake MartinTebow loves being in the water. He practically begs for baths at home.

Ways to get your kid excited about moving

When we were pregnant with Tebow, I agonized over how exactly to explain to Fuller we were going to be adding a new person to the family. I really couldn’t tell how he would react and it worried me to some hormone-driven degree. In the end it worked out ok, and it has been 14 months since Tebow arrived and Fuller is just NOW realizing how intrusive the new family member can be.

With all the agonizing I did, I’m actually kind of surprised at how nonchalant I was about telling Fuller we decided to sell our house and move to a new one. Maybe it was because I have moved houses nine times in my life (not including all the moving I did in college- from the dorms to the apartments then back to the dorms then back to the apartments) and it seems like it should be no big deal. Or maybe it was because I let Damon tell Fuller.

How Fuller Met Gene Chizik

Soon after we got to Lake Martin last week, I mentioned wanting to go to one of the Auburn basketball games. It happened that Auburn would be playing Kentucky, so we got excited and made plans. But apparently a lot of other people got excited as well (probably mostly Kentucky fans) and when I checked the ticket site on Saturday morning I found out the general tickets were all sold out.

Rain dashed our ideas of buying from scalpers so Albert and Linda generously gave their tickets to Fuller and me.

This gift was generous because Albert and Linda have magic tickets that not only get them entrance to the games but access to the hospitality suite (aka free food, drinks, and Fuller’s favorite: POPCORN!). Also, it meant they were going to keep Tebow while Fuller and had a mother-son date. It all adds up to generous giving.
